Blog Shorts — Mini Random Thoughts

Posted by Jimi on June 5, 2012

So, I have found my title for items I wish to discuss but do not have enough to say to fill an entire post.  Some of these may evolve into full posts of their own, but for the most part I really do not think so.

Todd Parr’s ‘The Family Book’ Banned By Illinois School District For Gay Parent Reference – As I have said before I hate book bans, it is a complete waste of time and only serves to make people seek out the books to read–even if they were not something the person originally had an interest in.  It saddens me these parents felt this was an issue that should not be “taught at the elementary school level”, however, they do not have a problem with these same children learning about slavery, drugs, alcohol and the “right” religion.

Oklahoma Rape Victim Denied Emergency Contraceptives. Doctor Cites Religious Objection As Reason – This one sickens me and further illustrates the need to outlaw religion.  You have a duty as a doctor to treat your patients properly and to the best of your ability, your religious feelings should not play into it.  If you cannot separate your religion from your work than you are obviously in the wrong field.  I sincerely hope this doctor loses his license and is never able to practice again.  The religious people out there really need to stop forcing their ideology onto the rest of us.

Doctor Denies HIV+ Man Meds “For Going Against God’s Will” – Another prime example of religion sticking its nose in where it does not belong.  Nothing more I can say on this one I did not include with the prior article.

Judge considers Idaho anonymous comments lawsuit – Not to long ago one of my local newspapers started a “verified” system for comments on their site due to the fact there was so much abuse and bullying going on.  I fully agreed with this system and became one of the first verified users.  I have never and never will attempt to hide my identity online, anything I say I am willing to stand behind.  I think the newspaper is wrong in this case especially where the person posting the comments is accusing someone (regardless they are an elected official) of being a thief.  Textbook definition of libel right there and I sincerely hope the judge orders the newspaper to reveal the identity of the poster.  For all the amateur Constitutional experts out there, this would not be a violation of the First Amendment as the USSC has ruled many times your ability to express a right does not supersede another persons rights.

‘Birther’ Compares Moniker To ‘N-Word’  - One of the more interesting ways I have ever seen someone attempt to play the victim card in my life.  However, it is not going to work as the two terms are nowhere near comparable in their context.  We refer to these idgits as birthers for the simple fact they are tied into this massive conspiracy theory and refuse to remove the tinfoil from their heads and see the plain truth.  The word nigger was used specifically to separate and entire race of people and let everyone else be aware they were outsiders, different, not “us.”

One Million Moms Facebook Page Disappears After Gay Bashing Backfires – While I do not believe in censorship, these are a group of nitwits I am pleased to see disappear, now if only they had taken the Westboro Baptist Church with them.  I must say though, kudos to JC Penney for, as my friend Justin over at Proud To Be A Filthy Liberal Scum stated, trolling One Million Moms so effectively.

IRS Cautions Churches About Rules On Politics From The Pulpit – Okay, this one has got me super excited.  I have been waiting for this for a long time now and I am glad to see the Infernal Revenue Service finally waking up and taking against against these political action groups churches.

Birth Control Pill Tax: Forbes Writer Argues Women On Hormonal Contraceptive Pills Should Pay More - And while we are at it, let’s tax men more for not recycling Hustler magazines, the disposal of Viagra packages….  you get the point.  They really will try anything to keep women barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen won’t they?

No child nudists: a naked grab for money? – So here is one bound to cause a lot of differing discussion.  I really do not know where I stand on the issue; however, I will say this:  If these people are really into the natural aspect of living life as a nudist than logic says they would not be uncomfortable around naked children as it is just another expression of nature, right?  Or am I missing something obvious here?  From what I got out of the quotes in this article these people are more interested in seeing other adults naked and arranging “hook-ups” than they really are in maintaining the true nudist lifestyle.  Or perhaps I am simply to European in my thought process.

First openly gay Episcopal bishop to visit Maine in June with film to support same-sex marriage - This guy gives me hope that not all is lost.  I am very unfamiliar with the ranks within the church, however I think I can safely assume that Bishop is rather high up there.  To have someone of this rank, be openly gay and support same-sex marriage is a great thing.  I am hoping to be able to attend the filming and participate in the Q&A after.

Well, this was all that was in my “Blog Shorts” bookmark folder.  I am hoping to make this kind of posting a somewhat regular event, hope you all enjoyed!
